NAIDOC WEEK 2023

NAIDOC Week is a time when we celebrate the diverse cultures, languages, and traditions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. It is an opportunity to recognize their resilience, strength, and ongoing connection to the land we all share.

In the Northern Rivers Region, we are fortunate to be surrounded by the ancient beauty of the land that has been nurtured and cherished by Aboriginal custodians for thousands of years. From the lush rainforests to the majestic rivers and coastal landscapes, the natural wonders of this region have provided sustenance, inspiration, and spiritual significance for generations.

This year’s theme “For our Elders” celebrates the important role and prominent place that Elders have held, and continue to hold, in communities and families across Australia.

During NAIDOC Week, let us take the time to engage with Aboriginal culture and heritage, to appreciate the art, music, stories, and knowledge that have been passed down through countless generations. Let us amplify their voices, celebrate their achievements, and support their ongoing efforts to preserve and promote their cultural heritage.

Northern Rivers Housing encourages everyone to participate in the various NAIDOC Week events happening in our Region, such as community gatherings, art exhibitions, and cultural performances. Let us come together as a community, stand in solidarity, and learn from the wisdom and strength of our First Nations people.

This NAIDOC Week, let us reaffirm our commitment to truth, reconciliation, and respect. By embracing the histories and cultures of our First Nations people, we can create a more inclusive and just society for all.
